A 4XE Cargo Layout Built Around Access

Sparky is our 2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4XE shop build. Its cargo area brings together a fridge, drawers, a prep surface, water, and an auxiliary electrical system. The challenge is fitting those jobs into the 4XE's available space while keeping the equipment accessible. This Jeep also serves as a development vehicle. In the shop walkthrough, Brit demonstrates shorter, 4XE-specific ultralight cargo components alongside our existing MASS Cargo Shelf and VersaTable. Some of those components were prototypes when filmed. The guide below explains that configuration and the fitment decisions to check before planning your own. Vehicle: 2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4XE Cargo Focus: Shorter modules, layered storage, and equipment access Configuration: Shop walkthrough; prototype details are identified below Sparky, our Wrangler Rubicon 4XE shop build. The original photo gallery remains below.

Start With the 4XE Floor Length

The 4XE needs its own cargo planning. The JLU 4XE MASS Plus Platform is sized for its shorter floor and uses 6×3-pattern accessories. The non-4XE MASS Plus platform is a separate product. Plan the base module first, then check the height and clearance of the equipment above it. A fridge needs room for its lid to open. A drawer needs room to extend. Those checks matter as much as the footprint on the platform. The 4XE MASS Plus platform provides access doors for the cargo cubby and threaded attachment points for modules. Its product page lists a single panel at 26.75 by 19.25 inches and a dual-panel arrangement at 26.75 by 38.5 inches. Use the current instructions for installation details. The rear cargo layout with the lower slides extended and the tailgate work surfaces open. The cargo modules and prep surface viewed from the open tailgate.

Shorter Slides and Drawers for the 4XE

Brit uses Sparky to demonstrate the ultralight series being developed at the time: lighter drawer slides, thinner material, and a revised drawer design. He describes planned flat slides and drawers in 3-, 4-, and 6-inch heights. The Flip’n Slide shown in the walkthrough is specifically shorter for the 4XE. It combines drawer access with a prep surface. Treat it as the demonstrated development configuration, rather than assuming that the standard JL Flip’n Slide Drawer is the same part. For your own layout, check the exact module version, mounting pattern, extension travel, and access to the space below. A product appearing in a shop-build gallery does not establish that every version fits your vehicle.

Separate Upper Storage From the Working Area

The adjustable MASS Cargo Shelf creates a second storage level above the lower modules. In the walkthrough, an Apex air reel sits on the left side, and a paper towel holder keeps another frequently used item within reach. Set shelf height around the equipment that must open beneath it. Check the fridge lid with the fridge in its working position, then check drawer movement and access to the cubby. Packing around those movements helps avoid a setup that requires unloading bags every time you need something. Sparky also uses the VersaTable on the tailgate. This provides a work surface separate from the slide's prep surface. A closer look at the drawer stack, upper storage, and folded tailgate table in the shop.

An Auxiliary Battery and Compressor Below the Drawers

The walkthrough places a 100Ah lithium auxiliary battery and a brushless dual ARB compressor in the cubby below the drawers. Brit describes a REDARC Alpha charger and TVMS Rogue/RedVision controls working together. The switched circuits include Starlink, the fridge, and USB charging. Starlink normally mounts above the cargo area using the Packout mount. This description concerns the auxiliary equipment shown in Sparky; it does not establish a connection to the Jeep's high-voltage traction battery. Preserve access to the battery, compressor, wiring, and connections when choosing the modules above them. Battery rail fitment, component clearance, ventilation requirements, and electrical installation need to be checked for the actual configuration.

Water and Equipment at the Tailgate

The water setup uses a Dometic GO faucet remote kit and an 11-liter jug. Brit demonstrates the remote mounts as part of the rear working area, keeping water access close to the tailgate surfaces. The spare tire platform carries equipment outside the cargo area. The walkthrough identifies a first aid kit, recovery boards, and the dual propane tank mount. One cylinder had been moved to the Ranger before filming, so the mount's capacity and the equipment actually carried are separate details. Give each item a secure mounting location and check that it remains accessible with the tailgate open. Include the carrier, accessories, and cargo when checking the limits of your tire carrier configuration. Portals, Wheels, and the Configuration Shown

Sparky runs 74Weld portals, Raceline forged beadlock wheels with +44 offset, and 38-inch Nitto Trail Grapplers. In the walkthrough, Brit says the suspension and shocks were still stock, and describes this as the best-driving Jeep the shop had built. That is firsthand feedback about this particular setup. It is not a promise that another combination of wheels, tires, suspension, and load will behave the same way. The exterior also includes Diode Dynamics lighting, our modular front bumper, a WARN winch, smoked High-Line lights, and quick-release inner fenders. The rear bumper-delete receiver arrangement shown near the end was a prototype, with future accessories discussed at the time.

Can I Use the Standard JLU MASS Plus Platform in a 4XE?

Choose the dedicated JLU 4XE platform. It is sized for the shorter cargo floor and specifies 6×3-pattern accessories. The standard non-4XE platform is a different configuration.

Is the Flip’n Slide in Sparky the Standard JL Version?

No. Brit identifies the demonstrated unit as a shorter, 4XE-specific ultralight version under development. Confirm the currently available part before ordering from the build's product list.

Does the Jeep's Hybrid Battery Power These Accessories?

The walkthrough documents a separate 100Ah lithium auxiliary battery and REDARC controls. It does not document a direct accessory connection to the high-voltage hybrid battery.
