A 4Runner Cargo System With Years of Use

Mounty is our 2011 Toyota 4Runner Trail, named for the mountain graphics along its sides. It has been part of AAL for years, carrying family-trip equipment and making a run through Baja while serving as a development vehicle for our 4Runner MASS system. The photos show what the system needs to do at a stop: bring the fridge into reach, open the drawers, and provide a place to prepare food. They also show different stages of the truck’s setup. This guide explains the visible layout and the product choices to check when planning your own. Vehicle: 2011 Toyota 4Runner Trail, 5th Gen Cargo System: MASS platform, drawers, and slides Photo Record: Multiple trips and development stages Mounty, our long-term 5th Gen 4Runner shop build.

Build the Layout From the Cargo Floor

The 5th Gen 4Runner MASS Platform provides the mounting foundation. Its product page pairs the platform with 7×5 drawers and fridge-slide components, using steel support rails and aluminum top plates. Mounty has used several generations of the system. The gallery is a record of that development, so check the current product version and attachment hardware rather than copying a photograph without confirming the parts. A rear view of the cargo area with the fridge and drawer modules arranged side by side. A camp cooking setup on the extended prep surface, with the fridge beside it. Equipment varies across the gallery.

Bring Food and Cooking Equipment Into Reach

The camp photos show the fridge and a separate working surface extending out of the cargo area. That arrangement gives the kitchen equipment its own place while leaving the fridge accessible. The build’s product list includes the Flip’n Slide (7×5) and the 18×34 Fridge Slide. Check the exact module, fridge footprint, handle clearance, and open-lid height together. The gallery contains different fridge and cooking arrangements and does not establish one unchanged configuration.

Give Small Items a Place Above the Cargo

The rear overhead MOLLE panel creates mounting space above the cargo area. The photos show pouches attached overhead and a paper towel holder close to the rear working area. The panel uses factory mounting points. The Universal Paper Towel Holder requires the separately sold 4Runner adapter for mounting beneath this panel. Pouches and other pictured accessories are also separate from the panel kit. MOLLE pouches mounted above the rear cargo area, keeping smaller items off the floor. The extended work surface in use on a lakeside stop. The original gallery includes more camp and travel photos.

Plan Around the Stop, Then Pack for the Drive

The family-trip photos show the cargo system in use beside the open hatch. Before choosing a layout, consider the equipment you need to reach first and what must remain accessible while the rest of the vehicle is packed. Open the fridge lid with the slide in its working position. Check that drawers and the prep surface can extend without unloading bags. Keep access to the mounting hardware and equipment that needs service. Secure cargo for travel and keep the hatch’s opening path clear. These are planning checks for a similar setup. Your fridge, passengers, personal gear, and mounting arrangement determine the space you need.

How Do I Choose a Fridge Slide?

Measure the fridge, including handles and lid movement, then compare the exact slide’s tray and exterior dimensions. Allow room for the fridge’s ventilation and the surrounding cargo.

    Recorded Suspension

At the heart of the suspension system on Mounty is the Stage 4, 3" lift from Icon Vehicle Dynamics. This system has performed great for us for several years.
